Geography for everyone

Who we are

Geography Victoria is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation and an affiliate of the Royal Society of Victoria.

Victoria has not had a Geographical Society since 1920. Just over one hundred years later, Geography Victoria formed in 2021-2022 as a geographical organisation which provides opportunities to explore places as well as ideas.

The formation of Geography Victoria addresses a key recommendation of the National Committee for Geographical Sciences in 2018 and redresses the lack of a geographical organisation for Victorians.

Geography Victoria brings together people of all ages and from all walks of life to share in a range of geographical experiences aimed at developing a deeper understanding of the community and environment.

What we do

Since its recent formation, Geography Victoria has organised a range of field trips, walking tours, film shows and informative presentations.

Future activities will include forums, panel discussions, lectures and field trips that promote and advance Geography in the community.

Geography Victoria will seek to increase public awareness of Geography through the publication of geographical resources and work collaboratively with the wider Geography community.

Further goals include preparing and submitting geographical submissions to appropriate authorities on environmental and social issues in the state of Victoria.

Geography Victoria will also recognise Victorians who have demonstrated notable achievements in Geography.
